How much can a Ford F-150 tow?
The towing capacity of the new Ford F-150 varies depending on its engine. The truck has seven engines for you to choose from. The base 3.3-liter V-6 that produces 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque can tow up to 8,200 pounds.
- The 2.7-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V-6 that generates 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque can tow up to 10,100 pounds.
- The hybrid 3.5-liter PowerBoost V-6 engine that strikes a great balance between work capability and fuel economy. Rated at 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque, the hybrid powertrain enables the truck to lug up to 12,700 pounds.
- The 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V-6. This engine churns out 400 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque and offers a towing capacity of 14,000 pounds, which is the highest among full-size trucks. There's also a high-output version of the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 that makes 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. However, it reduces the tow rating to 8,200 pounds.
- The 5.0-liter V-8 serves up 400 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque and can tow up to 13,000 pounds.
- The 5.2-liter supercharged V-8 that delivers a whopping 700 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque. With this engine, the truck turns into an off-road beast, but it can only pull up to 8,700 pounds.
Is F-150 Limited or Platinum better?
The Ford F-150 Limited and Platinum trims can both tow up to 14,000 pounds of trailer weight when properly equipped. The main difference between these two trims are the available engine options.
The Limited trim comes equipped with one of the most powerful engines in the F-150 lineup, a 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 engine or the available 3.5L PowerBoost™ Full Hybrid V6. The Platinum trim, on the other hand, offers three engine options:
- A standard 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 engine with 410 lb-ft of torque
- A 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 engine with 500 lb-ft of torque
- A 3.5L PowerBoost™ Full Hybrid V6 engine that puts out 570 lb-ft of torque

What Kinds of Cabs Are Available in the Ford F-150?
